Overview
Avok runs from the cloud to the edge — including places with no network, extreme conditions, and unforgiving latency. As an Embedded Systems Engineer you’ll build the edge software that keeps our fusion and decision-support capability working when the link drops. This is a software role: you write the code that turns edge compute into a node of the Avok platform.
What you’ll do
- Build and optimize edge software services that run on resource-constrained compute in the field.
- Implement real-time data ingestion and processing that degrades gracefully when disconnected.
- Run inference and analytics on-device; manage storage, sync, and resilience at the edge.
- Profile and harden for performance, memory, power, and reliability.
- Package and deploy software to edge and air-gapped environments securely.
What we’re looking for
- Strong systems programming in C, C++, and/or Rust on Linux.
- Experience with embedded/edge software, real-time constraints, or low-level performance work.
- Comfort with networking, IPC, and building for unreliable, low-bandwidth conditions.
- Eligible for Canadian Government security clearance.
Nice to have
- Edge AI/ML inference, signal/data processing, or robotics middleware (software).
- Familiarity with secure boot, OTA/update mechanisms, or constrained-device security.
Why Avok
You’ll work on mission-driven technology that helps Canada see, understand, and decide — alongside a small, senior team, on problems that matter. This is an on-site role in Toronto. Many roles require eligibility for Canadian Government security clearance and compliance with the Controlled Goods Program.
